For an employer, it is important that you are aware of the difficulties that a person with AS may be having with the general banter of the workplace. They may need some help in interpreting what is being said and in putting it in perspective. They may struggle to differentiate between good-humoured teasing and offensive remarks and may find a noisy, talkative environment impossible to work in. Lunch times and breaks can be a minefield for those with AS – much like the playground at school – a setting with no structure and without the focus on the work.
