By November 1950, the Pacific Airlift had stabilized and the West Coast Airlift Task Force (prOVisional) was disbanded and its responsibilities were assumed by the Continental Division of MATS. By March 1952, the Pacific Airlift was utilizing approximately 60 MATS, 60 commercial, and 15 United Nations transports. At war's end inJuly 1953, MATS had airlifted over 80,000 tons of cargo and 214,000 personnel over its Pacific Airlift routes. Its transports had returned eastward carrying over 43,000 casualties to the United States for further treatment.

Beginning on 8th May 1952, a squadron SB-29 would depart and orbit at sea as the SAC bombers took off and assembled. The SB-29 would accompany the Superfortresses until they crossed the Korean coast, then would orbit outside the coastline until the bombers had completed their mission, reversing the process on the return flight. A similar scenario was true for 3rd ARS/ARG SB-29s flying from Japan. While Flight D (39th ARS) aircrews orbited off the Korean coast with their SA-16As, Flight B (37th ARS) used their SB-17s and eventually SB-29s for route patrol and offshore orbit.

Late in the Korean War, these squadrons were joined by VR-7, which was established in April 1953 at Hickam AFB, Hawaii. VR-7 operated the R7V-1 alongSide VR-8, briefly supporting the Pacific Airlift into Korea and later flying Pacific Division 'embassy runs' to the Far East. VR-7 Detachment A was formed at TachikawaAFB,Japan, initially operating the R5D but later converting to'the R7V-l/C-121 C.
